Christmas lights can add a warm festive atmosphere, but proper use is crucial. The following tips, based on common safety practices, help you enjoy holiday decorations while minimizing risks.

‌Safe Selection and Inspection:‌ When purchasing lights, prioritize LED bulbs due to their lower heat output, reduced energy consumption, and longer lifespan. Always inspect all bulbs before use, removing any damaged or faulty ones. Ensure the lights bear clear safety certification marks confirming compliance with electrical safety standards.

‌Proper Installation and Placement:‌ When installing, wrap lights around the Christmas tree or decorations first, avoiding excessive pulling of wires or direct contact of bulbs with flammable surfaces. For Christmas trees, securely anchor the tree and keep it away from heat sources (like radiators or stoves) and vents. If using extension cords, ensure their rated power matches the load of the lights to prevent overloading.‌

‌Power Management and Daily Use:‌ Before connecting power, verify the outlet is not overloaded. Avoid routing wires across walkways or covering them with furniture to prevent tripping hazards or wear. Always turn off the power when leaving the room, especially before sleeping or during extended absences. If lights include timers or remote controls, test their reliability beforehand.

Special Scenario Precautions: When using flammable decorations like candles or spray snow, keep them away from lights and Christmas trees. Candles must be placed on stable, non-flammable bases and extinguished when unattended. Spray snow products should be kept away from any open flames and stored in sealed containers immediately after use.
